Blood Root is a new series of unique hand-cast abaca pulp works. Begun in late 2014, the patterns of these pieces are derived from microscopic cross-section views of plant roots and stems (shoots.) The colors used are my initial response to the recent genome sequencing of a plant (Arabidopsis thaliana, a small mustard). It was found to share multiple genes with humans, including genes associated with human hearing.
